Horsetail Fern (Equisetum hyemale)

 

Common name: Horsetail
Scientific name: Equisetum hyemale.

The aerial stem contains granules of silica, making it valuable for use as an abrasive in the polishing of wood and the cleaning of pots.
the Chinese have long used the Horsetail, Equisetum hyemale to treat the liver and the eye. The plant is astringent, antihaemorrhagic, diuretic and diaphoretic. In Indonesia it is used to treat bruises, fractures and arthritis. The Chinese have recently conducted clinical trials to show its effectiveness in treating acute infectious hepatitis.
