Ubi Garut (Maranta arundinacea L.)

 

Maranta arundinacea is a perennial, erect herb that can reach up to 1.5m tall. It is shallow rooted and with rhizomes that penetrate deeply into the soil. Fruit is oblongoid, berry like. The seed is 3-sided and the flower bisexual.

M. arundinacea can be grown on many soil types but thrives on rich, loose and sandy loams with a ph of 5-8 (volcanic soil are best suited for M. arundiacea.
